Iran Executes Man Convicted of Killing Security Officer in 2022 Protests
Iran's judiciary news agency Mizan reported on Saturday that Tehran executed a man convicted of fatally shooting a security officer during the 2022 protests.
Iran's judiciary news agency Mizan reported on Saturday that Tehran executed a man convicted of fatally shooting a security officer during the unrest that swept the country following the death of a young woman while in custody of the morality police in 2022.
Authorities said the fatal shooting occurred during the unrest in Tehran, where protesters blocked roads and clashed with security forces, according to Reuters.
Authorities stated that Aref Koshkar was armed with an air rifle and shot the security officer, injuring Salman Amir Ahmadi, who later died in hospital.
According to authorities, Koshkar confessed to firing the shot from the roof of a house and throwing the rifle into a garbage bin.
It is noted that the execution is the latest related to the 2022 protests, which erupted after the death of Kurdish young woman Mahsa Amini (22), who died in police custody after being arrested on allegations of violating the country's strict female dress code.
Human rights organizations say authorities often rely on forced confessions extracted under torture to convict protesters. Iran denies these allegations.
