Iranian TV: Sound of explosion heard in Abadan on the Gulf
Did not provide any details about the sound of the explosion
ISTANBUL / AA
Iranian state television reported on Sunday that a sound of an explosion was heard in the city of Abadan (southwest).
Iranian TV did not provide further details about the sound of the explosion in Abadan (Abbadan in Persian), overlooking the Arabian Gulf, located in Khuzestan province.
No official statement was issued on the matter.
The confrontation between Washington and Tehran has entered its second week, as US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 of this month the end of the ceasefire stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 18, 2026.
Trump's announcement came after Iran targeted three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran insists on imposing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the strategic corridor, while Washington demands what it says is ensuring freedom of navigation and its security in the strait.
The escalation has caused disruption to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, threatening aviation and energy supplies, amid intermittent closures of airspaces and warnings of targeting US installations and interests outside the Middle East.
