(CNN) — Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), appeared in public again during the funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday, according to Iranian media reports.

The hardline general was seen praying over the body of the late Supreme Leader on the second day of the funeral ceremonies in Tehran.

This is only his second public appearance in months, as photos published by Iranian state broadcaster IRIB on Thursday showed General Vahidi sitting next to Khamenei's coffin during the farewell ceremony in Tehran.

Vahidi — who took the post after his predecessor Mohammad Pakpour was killed by US-Israeli strikes on the first day of the war — had not been seen publicly in months. He previously served as the commander of the Quds Force, the elite unit of the IRGC.

Vahidi, who is under US sanctions and wanted by Interpol, was involved in formulating Tehran's next steps during the war and is known as a prominent voice in the country's decision-making circles.

The United States and Israel have assassinated several senior Iranian military commanders, including Qasem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force.

Meanwhile, a poet — who participated in the funeral ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday — attacked US President Donald Trump with a poem he recited in front of large crowds gathered in Tehran for the multi-day funeral.

The poet recited a harshly worded poem criticizing Trump, according to the Associated Press, which said the crowds responded with chants attacking the United States and Israel.

Signs of anger were evident after Khamenei's killing, on the second day of his funeral. Iranian state media quoted a politician as saying, during programs, that the 'main slogan' of the mourners was 'demanding revenge for his blood.'

Many mourners carried the coffin of the late Supreme Leader outside the Imam Khomeini prayer hall during the funeral ceremony held in Tehran on Sunday morning.
