Santiago, July 22 (QNA) - Thirteen people have died due to heavy rainfall in various parts of Chile, which also led to the disappearance of seven others.
Local authorities stated that the storms swept across the central to southern regions of the country, causing widespread flooding and road closures, in addition to damaging many homes.
Alicia Cebrián, head of the National Emergency Office in Chile, said: "The rains over the past few days have undermined waterways, streams, and riverbanks, and the risk of rising water levels in some of them persists."
She noted that 2,281 people have been displaced due to the rains, in addition to the destruction of 81 homes, while 2,761 homes suffered severe damage. Also, 87,000 people remain without electricity, coinciding with the suspension of classes in schools in several municipalities across four regions.
