JERUSALEM / Anadolu
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to travel to the United States early next week, where he is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday.
These high-level talks come at a time of rising tensions in the region, directly impacting the political and security calculations of both sides.
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said in a statement: "At the invitation of President Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to Washington on Monday."
It added: "As part of the visit, the Prime Minister will meet with President Trump at the White House on Tuesday and will attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham, a friend of Israel."
Preparations for the trip have been underway for about two weeks, while the Prime Minister's Office noted the absence of Israeli journalists on the government's "Zion Wing" plane without providing reasons, calling on media organizations to arrange their travel independently.
The upcoming talks between the two sides are expected to focus on several key issues including Tehran, Beirut, and Gaza, in addition to strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The visit comes amid escalating military confrontation between the United States and Iran, as Washington has been conducting daily strikes on Iran for more than two weeks, while Tehran responds by targeting what it says are "American military installations and equipment" in Arab countries, including Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait.
In Israel, official and media indicators and statements are increasing regarding readiness for a possible new escalation against Iran, amid a heightened military alert and anticipation of developments related to the ongoing confrontations between Tehran and Washington.
This visit is of great importance amid the exacerbation of direct military tensions and the increase in mutual strikes between Washington and Tehran. It will shed light on the nature of Israeli-American coordination regarding these rapid field developments in the region. Political circles are also anticipating the repercussions of these confrontations on regional and international security in the coming period. The extent to which these talks will affect the course of the ongoing military escalation remains a focus of attention for observers and analysts.
