The death toll from the two devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela two weeks ago has risen to nearly 4,500, according to a new official tally announced by the Venezuelan government on Sunday.

In a post on its official Telegram channel, the government stated that the number of dead reached 4,490 people.

Meanwhile, 16,740 others were injured in the earthquakes that occurred on June 24. It added that more than 19,500 affected people are still staying in shelter camps, as efforts continue to deal with the aftermath of the disaster and provide support to those affected.
