In a medical error that sparked widespread shock in France, a routine surgical appointment for a teenager turned into an unexpected nightmare, after she entered the operating room for surgery on her ankle, only to wake up to discover that the medical team had removed her four wisdom teeth, even though she did not need any oral intervention.

The incident took place at a private clinic in the city of Le Touquet in northern France, where the 16-year-old girl was preparing to undergo a procedure to treat an ankle injury, before a procedural error led to a completely different operation.

According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, the girl was placed under general anesthesia, and after the operation, she began to feel sharp pain in her mouth instead of the site of her foot injury, only to discover that the clinic's doctors had mistakenly removed her four wisdom teeth.

The girl's mother explained that the clinic's management told her that the reason was the similarity of patient names, which led to a mix-up of medical files and the performance of the surgery intended for another patient.

The mother confirmed that her daughter did not suffer from any health issue that required the extraction of wisdom teeth, noting that the error caused her physical pain and psychological suffering, as well as delaying the primary surgery she needed to treat her ankle.

She added that her daughter entered the hospital expecting to fix a foot injury, but left after losing four healthy teeth, describing what happened as an 'inexcusable mistake.'

For its part, the clinic's management acknowledged the error and issued a formal apology to the family, confirming that an internal investigation had been opened to determine the circumstances, and that procedures would be reviewed to prevent such errors from recurring in the future.

Despite the apology, the family announced its intention to take legal action, filing a lawsuit demanding accountability from those responsible and compensation for the physical and psychological damages suffered by her daughter as a result of the erroneous procedure.
