According to police and federal officials, two plainclothes Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents left a man partially handcuffed as they backed away from an arrest attempt at Las Vegas airport in Nevada, USA, after bystanders confronted them.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers removed the handcuffs and notified ICE after it was determined that there were no arrest warrants for the man.

The Department of Homeland Security identified the man as Phu Nguyen, 57, an Australian citizen born in Vietnam, who has overstayed his visa in the United States since 2015.

The Department of Homeland Security claimed it stopped the arrest after 'a crowd of anti-ICE agitators surrounded the officers to de-escalate the situation and ensure officer safety.'

Nguyen was arrested the following day at Los Angeles International Airport.

The Department of Homeland Security said he will face due process and remain in ICE custody pending a decision on his deportation. Nguyen is currently held at ICE's Atalanto Center on immigration violations.
