(CNN) -- The Syrian Civil Defense announced Sunday that a ferry sank after colliding with a bridge in Deir ez-Zor city, resulting in the deaths of at least two children so far, with search for survivors ongoing.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted the director of the National Hospital in Deir ez-Zor as saying that two children who arrived at the hospital died due to the sinking of the ferry in the Euphrates River, while 7 injured were treated.

The Syrian Civil Defense stated that the sunken ferry was carrying 35 people on board, and sank after colliding with the war bridge in Deir ez-Zor city, causing those on board to fall into the river's waters.

Authorities managed to 'rescue 10 civilians so far, while teams continue search and rescue operations at the accident site,' according to SANA.
