Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that a Qatari delegation, which includes one of the foreign minister's advisors, visited Iran today for consultations with officials, in an attempt by Doha to solidify its mediation role after the latest escalation in hostilities in the region on Tuesday or Thursday of last week.

According to the Iranian agency, the visit comes after what it described as Qatari accusations against Iran regarding an alleged incident in the Strait of Hormuz and the subsequent US attacks on Iranian military and civilian targets.

A source told Reuters news agency today that Qatari negotiators are meeting with Iranian officials in an attempt to ease tensions and prepare the ground for broader negotiations, while noting that the talks are being conducted in coordination with the United States.
