(CNN)—Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei warned Monday of 'consequences' if the United States moves against Kharg Island, in response to a question about threats made by US President Donald Trump regarding the island.

During a press conference in Tehran, Baghaei was asked about what the questioner described as Trump's repeated threat, via social media posts, of a potential seizure of the island, and what the consequences would be.

Baghaei said: 'They will face the consequences. There are many people in those areas waiting impatiently for their arrival.'

Baghaei did not provide further details on the actions Iran might take.

Trump has previously threatened that the United States would seize Kharg Island and other Iranian oil infrastructure.

The small island in the Gulf is an economic lifeline for Iran, handling about 90% of the country's crude oil exports.

This comes as Pakistan's Interior Ministry announced Monday the arrival of Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Islamabad amid the current escalation between the United States and Iran.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received Momeni and a delegation of Iranian officials at the airport, according to a statement from the ministry, expressing hope that Momeni had 'brought good news.'

Naqvi added: 'We also hope to make progress on a regional solution.'

Earlier, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that Momeni is expected to discuss bilateral relations, including 'economic, transit, and agricultural cooperation' between Iran and Pakistan during his one-day visit to Islamabad.
