Trump Sets Formula for Striking Iran: If You Attack a Ship, We'll Hit a Bridge
(CNN)-- US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the United States will bomb and destroy a bridge or a power plant each time Iran targets a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: "From now on, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran targets a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether with a shell, missile, drone, or any other weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy a bridge or a power plant."
Trump added that the targeting would include plants and bridges "located inside or near the capital Tehran."
Trump has previously threatened to target Iranian civilian infrastructure — which could be considered a war crime — including last week during an interview with Fox News, when he said the US "will destroy all of Iran's bridges unless it sits at the negotiating table."
It is worth noting that the Strait of Hormuz was fully open to free and safe passage before the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran in February at the start of the conflict, and Iran considers its control over this waterway its most important bargaining chip in negotiations, and has repeatedly opened fire in recent weeks on ships it said had not contacted Iranian authorities before transiting.
