Trump Threatens to Bomb Iranian Civilian Facilities
US President Donald Trump threatened Iran on Wednesday with bombing its civilian facilities every time it targets a ship attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, in a new escalation of the tug-of-war over control of this vital energy supply waterway.
Trump's threat comes hours after US strikes on Iranian military centers.
Trump wrote on social media platforms: "Every time Iran fires at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether with a missile, rocket, drone, or any other means or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant."
This came hours after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it had conducted strikes on Iranian military operations centers, naval capabilities, hangars, drone storage facilities, and military logistics infrastructure, aimed at undermining Iran's ability to threaten commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media reported strikes in various areas, including the coastal city of Bushehr in the south of the country, where Iran's only nuclear power plant is located.
State television reported on Wednesday morning via Telegram that air defense activity was heard in western, eastern, and northeastern Tehran, while Tasnim news agency reported in the afternoon that a US strike targeted Larak Island with a missile.
