The United Nations has warned that ongoing violence in Sudan continues to endanger civilians, causes displacement, and exacerbates humanitarian needs, particularly in the Kordofan and Darfur regions.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said: "Humanitarian workers have stressed that humanitarian needs are worsening as violence continues in North Kordofan."

The World Food Programme warned of a rapid deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the city of El Obeid, due to increasing displacement towards it, as about 400,000 people in the areas of Sheikan, Bara, and West Bara face emergency levels of acute food insecurity.

Dujarric explained that a recent assessment by UN partners in Central Darfur State showed that food is the top priority for about 236,000 displaced people in five sites within the West Jebel Marra locality.

He noted that about 4,000 families have been displaced in Darfur due to recent inter-community violence, and they are in urgent need of emergency shelter and basic household items.
