(CNN)-- The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Tuesday the end of the wave of strikes it launched Monday on Iran.

CENTCOM said in a statement on platform 'X' (formerly Twitter): 'During the 5-hour mission, US forces successfully struck military targets across Iran, including Bushehr, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas, with the aim of further degrading Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping.'

It added: 'Our forces used precision-guided munitions against defense systems, missile and drone sites, and naval capabilities.'

It stated: 'Currently, more than 50,000 US troops are deployed across the Middle East, and US forces will remain in a state of high vigilance and combat readiness.'

The strikes came after US President Donald Trump announced that the United States intends to launch additional military strikes on Iran, signaling further moves after the resumption of negotiations between the two countries last week.

During an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump hinted that the US is closely monitoring Iranian targets, but refrained from discussing operational details, saying: 'We will hit them hard tonight, and we will hit them hard tomorrow.'
