The US military said late Monday evening that its forces had completed a new wave of strikes against Iran, after earlier announcing that it had begun new strikes on orders from President Donald Trump.

This is the third consecutive night that the United States has carried out strikes against Iran, as Trump announced the reimposition of a blockade on Iranian ports and proposed a 20 percent fee to protect the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian joint military command affirmed that the United States will have no role in determining the future of the waterway and will not be allowed to intervene.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that during the five-hour mission, US forces successfully struck military targets across Iran, aiming to further degrade Tehran's ability to attack commercial ships.

It added that US forces used precision munitions to target Iranian coastal defense systems, missile and drone sites, and naval capabilities.

CENTCOM confirmed that more than 50,000 US troops are currently deployed across the Middle East, stressing that US forces remain on high alert and fully ready.

Iran had announced earlier this week the closure of this vital waterway.
