A Saudi tourist drowned while his brother survived after an accident in the tourist area of Uzungöl in Trabzon province, northern Turkey, when they were swept away by the waters of a stream while trying to take a souvenir photo, according to Al Arabiya.

Turkish media reported that the 39-year-old tourist lost his balance and fell into a watercourse while taking a photo near the stream, before being swept away by the strong current.

When his 23-year-old brother tried to rescue him, he was also swept away by the water.

Immediately, disaster and emergency management teams, ambulance, and gendarmerie rushed to the scene, and some citizens managed to rescue the younger brother, while rescue teams continued searching until they found the older brother dead.

The victim's body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute for necessary procedures and autopsy, while reports confirmed that the surviving brother's health condition is stable. Footage captured by a mobile phone camera showed the moments of the accident and the rescue operations at the tourist site.

Embassy following up on the accident

According to Al-Ikhbariya, the Saudi Embassy in Turkey announced the death of a Saudi citizen due to drowning in a watercourse in the Uzungöl area of Trabzon province in the north of the country, confirming that it is following up on the incident with the relevant Turkish authorities. According to eyewitnesses, the citizen fell into the watercourse, and his brother jumped in an attempt to save him, but the strength of the current swept them both away, before a person at the site managed to rescue the brother. The embassy indicated that the Saudi citizen was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to the accident, reiterating that it continues to follow up on the procedures related to the incident in coordination with the Turkish authorities.
