The US Central Command noted that the strikes, which highlight the growing role of drones in American combat operations, "weakened Iran's ability to continue attacking commercial ships." The CENTCOM post included a video recording of the explosion of maritime drones near two docks, with fire and smoke rising in the port atmosphere.

Corsair drones

Last month, the US Army used a Corsair drone in a rescue operation for two of its pilots after Iran shot down their Apache attack helicopter. The Corsair drone, developed by the American company Saronic Technologies, entered service in the Middle East in March. Saronic says the "autonomous surface vessel," which is 24 feet long, is equipped with a diesel engine and can be launched at sea, allowing larger ships to deploy and recover it without needing to return to port.
