Several provinces in southern Yemen witnessed widespread popular protests on Tuesday rejecting any arrangements that would allow the Houthi group to share the resources of the south, following statements by the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council that drew reactions in southern circles.

Thousands of protesters gathered in cities and districts of Hadramawt province, including Mukalla, Yabuth, and Ad Dali'ah, where mass marches paraded through the streets and participants chanted slogans rejecting what they described as guardianship over southern decision-making, and denouncing any agreements that grant the Houthis a share of the south's wealth or resources without the consent of southerners.

The protests extended to the temporary capital Aden, the Socotra Archipelago province, and several districts of Abyan province, amid assertions from participants rejecting any infringement on what they considered the rights of southerners to manage their resources and wealth.

Protesters raised slogans supporting the Southern Transitional Council and its president Aidarus al-Zubaidi, affirming their adherence to what they described as the right of the southern people to sovereignty over their land and resources, and their rejection of any arrangements or understandings in which southerners are not a party.
