On Thursday, the southern Yemen governorates witnessed widespread popular protests as part of the popular escalation program called for by the Southern Transitional Council, rejecting what it called 'regional guardianship' over the south.

Protesters also denounced 'the efforts of the de facto authorities to release terrorist elements convicted of assassination crimes targeting southern political and military leaders, against whom death sentences were issued.'

They also protested the deterioration of 'basic services and the rise in food prices due to measures taken by the de facto authorities, represented by raising the customs dollar price, which negatively reflected on the rise in food prices, especially wheat.'

Thousands of southerners rallied in front of the local authority headquarters in Aden, the government's temporary capital, and thousands also gathered in the city of Mukalla, in Seiyun, and the districts of Sah, Ain, Hawra, and Tarim in Hadhramaut.

The governorates of the Socotra Archipelago and Mahra, and the governorates of Abyan and Dhale, witnessed massive popular protests, during which protesters chanted slogans rejecting 'regional guardianship over the south' and expressing support for the Southern Transitional Council and its leadership.

Protesters also denounced 'the efforts of the ruling authorities, backed by some regional parties, to release terrorist elements who carried out assassination crimes on behalf of the Houthis in Aden and a number of southern governorates.'
