Saudi National Bank's profits grew 7.6% year-on-year in the second quarter of this year to 6.6 billion riyals, supported by higher operating income.

The bank explained in a statement on 'Tadawul' on Monday that total operating income rose 11.3% to 10.6 billion riyals due to a 11.4% increase in net income from financing and investments, in addition to a 34% increase in total income gains from investments, and net foreign exchange income rising 3.3%.

Meanwhile, financing and investment income rose 1.6% to 15.4 billion riyals due to a 1.3% increase in income from the financing portfolio and a 2.8% increase in income from the investment portfolio.

For its part, the bank's board of directors decided to distribute 6.9 billion riyals in cash dividends to shareholders for the first half of this year, on 6 billion outstanding shares, at 1.15 riyals per share representing 11.5% of its par value, setting the entitlement date on July 28 and distribution on August 8.

The bank had recently announced the full redemption of additional Tier 1 sukuk worth $1.25 billion, at the call price by the agent equal to 100% of the remaining principal amount of the sukuk, plus any accrued payments as of the first call date on July 26, and the sukuk were issued in January 2021.

"Al-Ahli", which is the largest financial institution in Saudi Arabia, was founded in 1953 with a capital of 60 billion riyals, listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange in 2014, and its market value today is 231.4 billion riyals after merging with Samba Group in 2021, with the Public Investment Fund owning the largest stake in the bank's capital at 37.2%.
