US carrier Delta Air Lines launches its first direct flights between Atlanta and Riyadh starting October 23, becoming the first American airline to operate direct flights to Saudi Arabia in more than two decades.

The company's president, Peter Carter, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Kingdom has become one of its most important strategic markets, in light of the economic transformations it is witnessing under 'Vision 2030', the opening to foreign investment, and the expansion in technology, artificial intelligence, and tourism sectors.

He explained that the company views the Saudi market as a long-term investment and expects growth in demand for business travel, tourism, and visits to friends and relatives, benefiting from a network of more than 215 destinations through its hub in Atlanta. He also revealed plans to enhance cooperation with Saudi Arabian Airlines and Riyadh Air, reflecting the growing status of the Kingdom as a regional hub for air transport and business.
