The Museums Commission has launched the 'Museum on the Road' initiative, a mobile museum designed specifically for students, and it is the first initiative of its kind developed by the Commission.

A specially equipped truck, converted into a fully interactive exhibition space, will head directly to schools across Riyadh, bringing cultural discovery into the school day and linking it to what students are actually learning in the classroom.

The initiative is classified as the first of its kind in the Kingdom that employs a mobile museum to link the museum experience with school curricula, supporting teachers in leveraging museums as an extension of the educational process within schools, thereby deepening students' learning, enhancing their understanding of concepts, and embedding knowledge through experience and interaction.

The initiative comes within the framework of the Museums Commission's vision to establish museums as educational institutions that contribute to building knowledge and support schools and teachers in providing a more interactive and reality-connected educational experience, by employing museum collections and educational stories as supporting tools for curricula, enhancing students' understanding of various concepts and helping to consolidate them.

The initiative consists of a mobile museum inside a fully equipped truck that visits public, private, and international schools in Riyadh, offering an interactive educational experience combining exploration and hands-on learning.

The educational experience content has been carefully designed to align with curriculum outcomes in several subjects, including history, arts, science, mathematics, and natural sciences, ensuring the experience is connected to what students learn in the classroom.

The educational experience was developed in coordination with the National Center for Curriculum, taking into account content appropriate for each educational stage, from elementary through middle school to high school.

The experience is not limited to viewing exhibits but is based on learning by doing; students interact with educational models and explore them through hands-on activities that stimulate curiosity, develop critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills. After the tour, students participate in a practical workshop where they design their own mini-exhibition, enhancing their understanding of museum concepts and turning knowledge into an enjoyable educational experience.

Believing in the importance of the teacher's role in the educational process, the initiative includes a dedicated educational guide for teachers, aimed at helping them build on what students gained during their visit to the mobile museum, and connecting the museum experience with concepts taught in the classroom, thereby deepening learning, enhancing understanding, embedding knowledge, and fostering cooperation between museums and schools in supporting the educational process.

CEO of the Museums Commission, Engineer Abdullah Al-Hammad, said: 'The "Museum on the Road" initiative represents a new step in expanding museums' reach to the community, delivering the museum experience to students in their educational environments. Through this initiative, we are working to develop innovative models that bring museums closer to students and enhance their role as partners in supporting the educational process, contributing to building a generation more aware and passionate about knowledge.'

The leader of the Museum on the Road initiative, Dr. Taghreed Al-Sarraj, added: 'The Museum on the Road initiative was launched from a vision that believes museums are not just destinations to visit, but educational institutions capable of supporting and enriching the learning journey. Learning becomes ingrained when a student moves from reading information to seeing it, interacting with it, and connecting it to what they learn in the classroom, making concepts clearer and deeper, and transforming knowledge into a living experience with a lasting impact.'

The initiative reflects the Museums Commission's commitment to developing innovative educational models that make museums part of the learning journey and contribute to building sustainable cooperation between museums and schools, strengthening the role of museums as educational institutions that contribute to building knowledge and developing the skills of future generations.

The initiative also aims to inspire students to continue exploring museums outside the school context, encouraging them to visit museums with their families, thereby strengthening society's connection to museums and extending the impact of the educational experience to the family and community.
