Industrial Production Index Falls 18.7% in May 2026

The general industrial production index in Saudi Arabia fell by 18.7% in May 2026 compared to the same month in 2025.

Data from the General Authority for Statistics showed the industrial production index declined to 87.9 points in May 2026, based on the 2021 base year, compared to 108.1 points in May 2025.

The authority stated that the decline resulted from a decrease in mining and quarrying activity, as well as manufacturing activity.

The industrial production index measures the relative change and development in the quantities of production of materials and goods converted from raw materials into final consumer goods, for the purpose of achieving material returns.

The authority stated that mining and quarrying activity declined by 28.6% year-on-year in May 2026, while manufacturing activity fell by 6.2%, affected by a 16.7% decline in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, and a 4% decline in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products.

It added that the activity of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply declined by 1.4% year-on-year, while the activity of water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services increased by 5.7%.
