Total Consumer Spending Rises to SAR 141.8 Billion (+6%) in May 2026

Consumer spending in Saudi Arabia rose to SAR 141.8 billion during May 2026, an increase of 6% compared to about SAR 134.1 billion in the same month of 2025.

Consumer spending in Saudi Arabia includes total cash withdrawals, point-of-sale sales, and e-commerce sales via Mada.

According to monthly data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), the value of point-of-sale sales in Saudi Arabia during May 2026 rose by 6% to about SAR 63.1 billion compared to the same period in 2025.

According to the data, sales during last May were made through 1,103.9 million transactions and across 2.5 million devices.

Point-of-sale transactions represent what consumers spend via debit and credit cards in large shopping centers, retail stores, pharmacies, and others.

Cash withdrawals from ATMs during May 2026 recorded a decrease of about 7% to about SAR 44 billion, compared to withdrawals in May 2025.

These cash withdrawals were made through 14.5 thousand ATMs of operating banks and the Saudi network, and via 145 million transactions, while the number of bank cards issued reached 68.5 million.

E-commerce sales via Mada cards rose to SAR 34.7 billion during May 2026, an increase of 27% compared to the same period in 2025.

According to SAMA data, these sales were made through 198.3 million transactions.

E-commerce sales include transactions using Mada cards for payment and purchase through shopping websites and electronic applications, and do not include transactions made via Visa, Mastercard, and other credit cards.
