Specialist: Electronic waste has turned into an economic resource
Specialist in industry and infrastructure Mustafa Al-Hakim praised the success of the Kingdom's global initiative to develop e-waste management regulations.
Al-Hakim added, in an intervention on the airwaves of 'Al-Ekhbariya Radio', that e-waste is no longer just waste but has become an economic resource known as 'urban mining' due to the precious metals it contains that can be obtained when recycled into new industries.
He continued that the Kingdom's success in this initiative is a clear declaration of leading the world towards digital sustainability and a permanent economy; because the components of any electrical power and batteries of a particular device contain gold, copper, silver, and metals whose value exceeds what is extracted, through recycling.
The Kingdom had announced the success of its global initiative to develop e-waste management regulations, which it implemented in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union in Paraguay, Rwanda, and Zambia, with the aim of strengthening the Kingdom's efforts in leading international efforts in digital sustainability and accelerating the transition towards green practices.
