Leila Elwi: 'Ibn Mein Fihom' Is a Different Comedy and I Enjoyed Working with Bayoumi Fouad
It is difficult to discuss the history of Egyptian cinema and drama in recent decades without pausing at the name Leila Elwi, the artist who managed to maintain her place in the hearts of the audience through successive generations, and to move between different artistic phases without losing her luster or her ability to renew.
Since her early beginnings, she presented works that left a clear impact on the Arab consciousness, and succeeded in building a diverse artistic portfolio that combined romance, comedy, and social drama, making her one of the most prominent stars of the Arab screen.
Despite a long career full of successes, Leila Elwi remains keen to search for new experiences and different characters, believing that a true artist never stops discovering new areas in his performance.
In her new film 'Ibn Mein Fihom?' she returns to comedy through a work that brings her together again with artist Bayoumi Fouad, in an experience that relies on human paradoxes and amusing situations within a light social framework.

In her interview with 'Al Arabiya.net' and 'Al Hadath.net', Leila Elwi spoke about the reasons for her enthusiasm for the film, the backstage of her collaboration with Bayoumi Fouad, the nature of her new character, and her opinion on the secret of the duo's success that brought them together in recent years.
What attracted you to the film 'Ibn Mein Fihom?' from the beginning?
What attracted me most is the idea itself, because it carries a great deal of humor and surprises, and at the same time relies on characters with clear motives and human situations close to people.
I felt that the work offers a different comedy that stems from events and characters, not just direct jokes, and this type of work always catches my attention.
You embody the character of 'Magda' in the film.. What can you say about her?
Magda is a lawyer who finds herself at the heart of unexpected events due to a complex inheritance case, and from here begins a series of situations and paradoxes that lead her on a journey full of surprises.
I liked that the character is practical and strong, but she gets involved in events that make her face unusual situations for her.

This work brings you together again with Bayoumi Fouad.. What is the secret of the success of your collaboration?
I think there is great understanding between us on the artistic level, and this reflects automatically on screen. Bayoumi is a very talented actor, and he has a special comedic sense that makes you feel comfortable while working with him.
There is also mutual trust between us that helps to present scenes smoothly and naturally.
Does your relationship in 'Ibn Mein Fihom?' differ from previous works that brought you together?
Certainly.
This time, we do not present the traditional relationship that the audience is used to seeing in some previous works, but there is a different form of interaction between the two characters within the events.
And this difference was one of the things that encouraged me to undertake the experience.

How were the filming atmospheres on set?
The atmospheres were very nice and full of positive energy. When the work team is harmonious and enjoys what they present, that reflects on the final result. We worked seriously, but at the same time there was a cheerful spirit all the time.
Do you think comedy has become more difficult than it was before?
Comedy is always a difficult art, because it depends on feeling, timing, and honesty. The audience has become more aware, and therefore it is no longer easy to make them laugh with traditional methods.
That is why I believe that the best types of comedy are those that stem from the situation and character, which is what the film offers.
What do you wish the audience would find in 'Ibn Mein Fihom?'?
I hope the audience enjoys the film and lives a state of joy and laughter, and at the same time interacts with the characters and events.
In the end, we present a work whose goal is entertainment, but we also try to present characters close to people and situations that the viewer can believe.
How do you view the audience's reactions to your duo with Bayoumi Fouad?
I am very happy that the audience has started to look forward to the works that bring us together.
This means that there is a state of acceptance and love that reached them, and I hope we live up to their expectations in every new experience.
