The Al-Ahsa Health Cluster recorded a new medical and humanitarian achievement after a Saudi medical team successfully transplanted 7 organs into seven recipients, following the donation of organs by two brain-dead donors at King Fahd Hospital in Hofuf, in coordination with the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation.

This humanitarian initiative came after the families of the deceased agreed to donate the organs, a gesture that embodies the values of giving and altruism, and contributes to saving the lives of patients suffering from organ failure and giving them a new chance at life.

The organ donation team initiated procedures according to approved protocols.

The Al-Ahsa Health Cluster explained that the organ donation unit team began handling the two cases immediately after confirmation of brain death according to approved national protocols, and completed all necessary medical and administrative procedures in coordination with the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation.

It pointed out that the specialized medical staff ensured to educate the families of the deceased about the importance of organ donation and its humanitarian impact, which contributed to the two families' consent to donate and save a number of patients on the waiting lists.

The successful transplant operations included four kidneys, a liver, a heart, and a lung. The heart was transplanted into a four-year-old girl, while six other patients aged between 51 and 82 benefited. The lung was successfully transplanted into a 51-year-old patient, the liver into a 68-year-old recipient, in addition to transplanting four kidneys into patients aged between 64 and 82.

The cluster affirmed that this achievement is an extension of its efforts to promote the culture of organ donation and raise community awareness of the importance of this humanitarian act, contributing to improving the quality of life for patients with end-stage organ failure.

For his part, the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation praised the efforts of the Al-Ahsa Health Cluster and its excellence in managing organ donation cases, appreciating the integration of work of the medical, nursing, and technical teams at King Fahd Hospital in Hofuf, and affirming that these successes reflect the level of integration among health authorities in the Kingdom, and contribute to achieving the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program and Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing quality of life and providing greater treatment opportunities for patients.
