Two brain-dead individuals at King Fahd Hospital in Al-Hofuf contributed to saving the lives of seven beneficiaries suffering from organ failure, after their families consented and with medical coordination with the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation.

The Al-Ahsa Health Cluster explained that the organ donation team began handling the two cases immediately after confirmation of brain death, noting that the team followed the approved national protocol and completed regulatory procedures in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

The cluster indicated that specialized staff succeeded in raising awareness among the families of the deceased about the importance of human donation, adding that both families gave full consent to donate to give waiting patients a new chance at life. Medical details revealed the success of a Saudi team in harvesting and transplanting organs for the seven beneficiaries, explaining that the left kidney was transplanted into an 82-year-old patient, while the right kidney was transplanted into a 71-year-old patient.

Precision Transplant

The report noted the success of other precise transplant procedures, including a heart for a 4-year-old girl, adding that the operations included a lung transplant for a 51-year-old patient, and a liver for a 68-year-old beneficiary. The medical team mentioned that the operations were successful and also included two other kidney transplants for beneficiaries aged 68 and 64, confirming that all surgical procedures ended successfully to end the patients' suffering from organ failure. The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation praised the efforts of the Al-Ahsa Health Cluster and its excellence in case management. The center also appreciated the integration of work of medical and nursing teams in various departments and supporting hospitals.
