The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Waqaa) confirmed that rabies is a common viral disease that poses a threat to human and animal health, as it is transmitted from infected animals to humans and affects the central nervous system, necessitating compliance with preventive measures and regular vaccination of animals.
The center explained that among the most prominent signs of infection in animals are: excessive salivation accompanied by difficulty swallowing, sudden behavioral changes such as unprovoked aggression, in addition to the appearance of gradual paralysis in the facial muscles or parts of the body.

It stated that transmission of the disease often occurs when a healthy human or animal is bitten by an infected animal, or when the saliva of an infected animal comes into contact with mucous membranes such as the eyes and nose or open wounds. Waqaa Center stressed the importance of regular vaccination of animals, following preventive guidelines, avoiding contact with animals showing abnormal symptoms, and reporting suspected cases; to preserve public health and limit the spread of the disease.
