The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement on X that US forces completed a third round of airstrikes within a week against Iran, hitting about 140 Iranian military targets on Saturday.

Central Command added that the targets included Iranian missile and drone sites, naval sites, ammunition depots, communication networks, and coastal surveillance sites.

The military said in a statement that during the raids over the past three nights, US forces hit more than 300 targets.

Central Command announced that Saturday's raids were in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. It added, 'The movement of commercial ships continues through this vital international waterway.'

The US raids came hours after Iran announced the closure of the strait following warning shots fired at a ship that took an unauthorized route.

Iran warned that any reaction to the incident would be met with a 'firm response.'

The US Central Command identified the vessel as the MV V.G.F.S. Galaxy, a container ship flying the flag of Cyprus, noting that it suffered severe damage to the engine room and that a civilian crew member is missing.
