On Saturday, Kuwait held Iran fully responsible for targeting another power generation and water desalination plant, affirming its right to take necessary measures to defend its territory and vital facilities.

This came after the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy announced that a fire broke out in parts of a power and water desalination plant following an Iranian attack.

This is the second targeting of power and water desalination plants in Kuwait in two days.

In an expansion of attacks, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation announced that one of the vital sites in the oil sector was subjected to 'repeated treacherous Iranian attacks' on Saturday morning.

The corporation added that the attacks resulted in a number of injuries and heavy material losses.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said it condemns and denounces 'in the strongest terms' the Iranian aggression that targeted the country's territory on Saturday morning, affecting another power and water desalination plant.

It added that the repeated targeting of vital facilities reveals a 'systematic aggressive approach' targeting civilian objects and essential infrastructure, endangering the lives and safety of civilians.

The ministry considered that 'the attack constitutes a violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817'.

The Foreign Ministry demanded that Iran 'immediately cease its attacks,' affirming that Kuwait 'retains its right to take necessary measures to preserve its security and defend its territory and vital facilities'.

It clarified that this is based on its right to self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and the rules of international law.

Earlier on Saturday, the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate announced that its teams dealt with two fires that broke out at two different sites following their targeting in the 'recent hostile attacks' attributed to Iran.

On Friday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity announced that one of the power and water desalination plants was subjected to an Iranian attack, resulting in a fire and damage to a large number of power generation units, and called for rationalizing electricity consumption.

At dawn on Saturday, the Kuwaiti army announced that its air defenses confronted hostile missile and drone attacks, explaining that the sounds of explosions heard were caused by air defense systems intercepting the attacks.

In recent days, Kuwait, along with other Arab countries, has been subjected to Iranian attacks, while Tehran said it targeted US military bases and sites in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman, in response to US strikes against it.

This comes after the collapse of the interim memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran on June 18 last, before US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 the end of the agreement, accusing Tehran of not abiding by it, while Iran blamed Washington for its failure.
