Iran's Fars news agency reported on Thursday that overnight American attacks targeted a railway bridge in a province in northern Iran, damaging a trade route with China and Russia, Tehran's strategic partners.

This route, which passes through Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, is an important overland path from Iran to China, and its importance has increased during the American blockade imposed this year on Iran's ports.

According to Fars, Russia has also been using this route to transport goods to Iran since late 2025.

The agency indicated that repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed quickly.

On Wednesday, the United States expanded its military strikes inside Iran on the second night of escalation, targeting sites and facilities in several areas that Washington said are linked to Tehran's ability to threaten navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the execution of additional strikes against Iran, aimed at 'further undermining its ability to threaten freedom of navigation' in the vital strait.

The escalation came after attacks targeted three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington said the US strikes were in response to, while Tehran did not claim responsibility for those attacks.

US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: 'This is a response to Iran's bombing of ships. If it happens again, the situation will become much worse.'
