A ferry collided with a bridge in the city of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria on Saturday-Sunday night while crossing the Euphrates River.

Everyone on board the ferry, which was carrying 35 people, fell into the river waters after it collided with the 'new military bridge'.

The Syrian Civil Defense announced the death of two children, in an initial toll, and the survival of more than 15 civilians who were on board the ferry.

It explained that the ferry sank after being swept away by the current following a breakdown.

Civil defense teams continue search and rescue operations for the missing at the accident site in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and locals.

Thermal drones are used in search operations, in addition to water rescue teams searching the river waters and land rescue teams combing the banks.
