Murder of elderly woman in Alexandria and dismemberment of her body shocks Egyptians
The murder of an elderly woman and the dismemberment of her body in Alexandria province shocked Egyptians, especially lawyers who previously knew the daughter accused of committing the crime, amid calls for a speedy investigation into the incident and disclosure of its details.
Security forces arrested the lawyer suspected of killing her mother from her residence in Giza province on Thursday, and she is expected to appear before the public prosecution in the coming hours for questioning, according to local media.
Security authorities in Alexandria province received a report on Wednesday from residents of a building in the 'Sidi Bishr' area about a foul smell emanating from an apartment in the building, prompting a security force to raid the site and discover scattered body parts in various places inside.
The parts were in a state of decomposition, while a yellow substance spread throughout the place amid a state of chaos. The security force found the head in the freezer in a state of decay, with the facial features completely disappeared.
Forensic evidence seized a knife and scissors stained with a dark-colored substance, suspected to have been used in committing the crime.
Security investigations revealed that the lawyer, the victim's daughter, was behind the incident, after suffering a severe psychological crisis that led her to attempt suicide more than once following the death of her young daughter.

The public prosecution continues its investigation into the incident, and security authorities continue gathering evidence, hearing witness testimonies, and reviewing surveillance cameras to uncover all the circumstances of the crime.
A number of citizens on social media expressed their shock at the brutality of the incident, which they considered a continuation of 'family murder' incidents that have multiplied recently, while the greatest shock came from lawyers who previously knew their accused colleague, and some expressed astonishment at her committing the crime, saying she was not known to have aggressive behavior.
Some of her colleagues reposted her previous posts in which she spoke about the psychological crises she had experienced since the death of her child years ago, where she attempted to end her life in 2022. The posts included thanks to a number of colleagues who stood by her during her crises.
Tarek El-Awady, a lawyer at the Court of Cassation and a member of the Presidential Pardon Committee, appealed to the Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities to quickly issue an official statement regarding the incident to reveal the truth of the information and speculation that has targeted the name of a lawyer whom he said is 'respected and appreciated by her colleagues.'
He demanded, in a post on Facebook, that the lawyer 'had undergone harsh psychological and human conditions before, during, and after the death of her daughter.'
