The air defense system of the International Coalition intercepted four drones in the sky of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, on Wednesday evening, after detecting aerial objects that approached the vicinity of the US Consulate and its associated logistics base.

Al Arabiya/Al Hadath correspondent reported hearing four explosions in the Erbil sky simultaneously with the activation of the air defense system. A security source confirmed that the defenses successfully shot down the drones before they reached their targets, noting that the attack did not result in any material damage or human casualties.

This is the third attack Erbil has witnessed within a single day, indicating a notable increase in the frequency of drone attacks targeting various sites within the region.

Repeated targeting of opposition party headquarters

Earlier on the same day, the headquarters of the opposition Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan were subjected to two separate drone attacks.

A security source reported that the first attack targeted one of the party's headquarters in the Wadi Al-Ana area on the outskirts of Erbil with six drones, resulting in injuries to six of its members according to an initial tally. Later, another party headquarters was subjected to a second attack with three drones, with no reports of injuries.

No party has claimed responsibility for the three attacks, and neither the Iraqi authorities nor the Kurdistan Regional Government have issued any statement identifying the perpetrator or the nature of the drones used.
