Iran: Two Explosions in Bushehr After US Army Announces Start of Attacks

Tehran / Anadolu
Iran's official news agency IRNA reported on Thursday evening that two explosions occurred in the coastal city of Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, following the US Army's announcement of the start of an attack on Iran.
The agency quoted the governorate of Bushehr as saying that the city, which had been subjected to US attacks, witnessed two explosions, without providing further details about the nature of the explosions or the extent of the resulting damage.
In the same context, Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency reported that explosions were heard in the cities of Ahvaz (center of Khuzestan province) and Bandar Abbas, in addition to Qeshm Island (in Hormozgan province), without any official statement being issued immediately to clarify the circumstances of the incidents.
On the other hand, the Public Relations Department of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences announced that the attack targeting the 'Tallah Allah Akbar' neighborhood in Bandar Abbas (overlooking the Strait of Hormuz) a short time ago resulted in injuries to at least 7 people.
Iranian authorities did not immediately provide further details about the nature of the attacks or the targets involved.
Earlier, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the start of a new wave of strikes against Iran, for the fifth consecutive night.
On June 18, 2026, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire, and began negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar to end the war that the United States and Israel launched against Iran on February 28 of the same year.
However, US President Donald Trump announced on July 8, 2026, the end of the ceasefire against the backdrop of renewed escalation, after Iran had attacked three ships a day earlier while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, claiming they did not comply with the navigation course it had set, prompting Washington to launch attacks on sites inside Iran.
Washington supports the passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz on a different course from that set by Iran, which Tehran rejects, asserting that it targets any ship that does not coordinate with it before crossing the strategic strait for global energy supplies.
