Iran announced early Saturday that the recent US attacks targeted two bridges and a tunnel in Hormozgan province, southern Iran.

The official Iranian news agency (IRNA) reported, citing Hormozgan province, that the ongoing US attacks hit two bridges and a tunnel in the region.

It stated that the Roudkhaneh Shur bridge on the Bandar Abbas–Sirjan road was closed due to the US attacks, and the Minab intersection bridge leading to Roudan was also targeted, in addition to the 'Shahid Mirzai' tunnel on the road linking Bandar Abbas and Hajiabad.

It called on residents to avoid using these roads, stressing that work is underway to provide alternative routes.

For days, the United States has been launching successive waves of strikes on sites inside Iran, while Tehran has been attacking what it says are US ships, facilities, and military bases in several countries in the region.

On June 18 last, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that included a halt to military operations and the start of negotiations to reach a broader agreement.

But US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the interim agreement had ended, after three ships were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Washington to resume its strikes inside Iran, amid escalating Iranian responses in the region.

Washington demands ensuring freedom and safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran insists on imposing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the strategic waterway, exacerbating fears of disruption to oil and gas exports from the region.
