The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday the death of one US service member and the injury of another during an operation to handle unexploded ordnance from an Iranian drone that had fallen earlier in northern Iraq.

CENTCOM explained in a statement that the soldier was killed while conducting a controlled detonation of the unexploded ordnance, while another service member sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment.

This brings the number of US service members killed since the outbreak of the war between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other on February 28 to 17 service members, according to CENTCOM.
