Joint Gulf-Jordanian Position Condemns Iran and Its Proxies' Aggression
The Gulf states and Jordan on Thursday expressed their unified joint position in condemning Iran and its proxies' attacks on their territories, welcoming the Iraqi government's decision to put weapons under state control.
The Gulf states and Jordan on Thursday expressed their unified joint position condemning Iran and its proxies' attacks on their territories, based on successive positions adopted by the Gulf and Arab Ministerial Councils, international law, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), welcoming the Iraqi government's decision to put weapons under state control before the next September 30.
The states affirmed, in a joint statement, that Iran's attacks on their territories, citizens, and civilian infrastructure have continued unabated since February 28 last, and escalated after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran on June 17 last, particularly on Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, targeting energy facilities, water desalination plants, ports, airports, and other civilian objects.
The statement stressed that these ongoing attacks constitute acts of outright aggression violating the UN Charter, international law, international humanitarian law, Security Council Resolution 2817, and the explicit commitments made by Iran under the memorandum of understanding, and pose a threat to international peace and security.
The states affirmed their inherent right to self-defense, individually or collectively, under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and to take all necessary legal measures to protect their sovereignty, territories, citizens, commercial vessels, and vital infrastructure against these ongoing attacks.
The statement welcomed the decision of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to put weapons under state control by a deadline of next September 30, expressing support for the decisive and effective measures taken by the Iraqi government, in line with its responsibility, to prevent the factions, militias, and armed groups loyal to Iran from continuing to launch hostile operations against countries of the region.
It also called on the Security Council to issue an urgent resolution demanding an immediate halt to Iranian attacks, recognizing the right of affected states to self-defense, and to exercise its legal authority to consider taking additional measures if these systematic and criminal attacks do not cease.
The states' statement praised the bravery, professionalism, and high readiness of their armed forces in defending their sovereignty, security, stability, and the safety of their civilians, appreciating the resilience and unity of their citizens in facing these challenges, which reflects the invulnerability of their homelands and the strong, unbreakable bonds between their leaderships and peoples.
The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the seven Arab states to the freedom and safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, and to maintaining regional security and stability, expressing readiness to work with all countries of the region and the International Maritime Organization to reach permanent arrangements consistent with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, state sovereignty, and good neighborly relations.
The statement expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, and its full support for the legitimate measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity, and its great appreciation for the diplomatic efforts made by Riyadh and Muscat to reach a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the Yemeni crisis, and for the development and humanitarian support provided by the Kingdom to Yemen.
