The Jordanian army announced on Friday that air defense systems and Royal Air Force jets shot down 7 missiles and 6 drones coming from Iran that targeted the kingdom's territory, without casualties.

The army quoted in a statement a military source described as 'responsible' as saying that 'air defense systems and Royal Air Force jets shot down, today Friday, 7 missiles and 6 drones coming from Iran that targeted the kingdom's territory'.

The source explained that 'the interception and downing operation did not result in any human injuries or material losses, and that Royal Engineer Corps teams moved to the sites where shrapnel fell and dealt with them according to the technical and security procedures in place'.

He stressed that 'the armed forces continue to monitor the kingdom's airspace and maintain the highest levels of operational readiness to deal with any threat targeting the security of the kingdom and the safety of its citizens'.

Jordan recently, along with Arab countries, was subjected to attacks that Tehran said targeted US military installations, in response to daily attacks Washington has been launching on Iran.

On Saturday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the deaths of two American soldiers and the loss of a third following an Iranian attack targeting sites in Jordan.

In an update on Sunday, CENTCOM said it had found unidentified remains at the attack site, and that procedures to examine and verify their identity are still ongoing.

The confrontation between Washington and Tehran entered its second week, as US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 this month that the ceasefire stipulated in the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18 last month had ended.

Trump's announcement came after Iran targeted 3 commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran insists on imposing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the strategic waterway, while Washington demands ensuring freedom of navigation and its security in the strait.
