(CNN)-- Jordan's Foreign Ministry announced Sunday that it summoned Iran's chargé d'affaires in Amman and handed him a strongly worded protest note over Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom's territory, demanding Tehran stop them immediately.

The ministry said in a statement that it conveyed to the chargé d'affaires a strongly worded protest message against the continued Iranian attacks, which it described as 'brutal and unjustified,' targeting the Kingdom's territory, along with 'inciting and provocative' statements issued by Iranian official entities against Jordan.

The ministry's official spokesperson, Fuad Al-Majali, affirmed that the ministry requested the chargé d'affaires to convey a clear message to his country about the necessity of immediately stopping the attacks on the Kingdom, stressing that Jordan's security and the safety of its citizens are a 'red line' that cannot be crossed, in addition to the need to stop the unacceptable inciting statements.

Al-Majali explained that the ministry affirmed its 'condemnation and denunciation of the brutal Iranian attacks that constitute a blatant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law and the UN Charter.'

He also affirmed Jordan's condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting the Gulf Cooperation Council states, reiterating the Kingdom's full solidarity with them and its standing by their side in all measures they take to protect their sovereignty, security, and the safety of their citizens and residents on their territories.

Al-Majali reiterated that Jordan will continue to take all necessary steps to protect its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens.
