Kuwait's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the Iranian ambassador to the state, Mohammad Toutounji, and handed him a protest note regarding his country's targeting of the tanker 'Kivan' on Monday during its transit through the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in injuries to several crew members.

According to a ministry statement, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan affirmed that this blatant aggression comes amid the escalating sinful aggression launched by Iran against Kuwait since 28 February, including inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side.

Al-Mashaan considered the Iranian aggression a flagrant violation of Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests, a threat to the security and freedom of international navigation, and a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

The deputy minister reiterated Kuwait's demand for Iran to immediately cease its illegal attacks, stressing that his country reserves the right to take necessary measures and holds Tehran fully responsible for this aggression and its ongoing attacks.
