Kuwait's Ministry of Foreign Affairs today summoned Iran's ambassador to Kuwait, Mohammad Totonji, and handed him an official protest note over his country's targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker "Kefan" while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, resulting in injuries to several crew members.

Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Al-Mashaan, according to a Foreign Ministry statement, affirmed that this attack comes in the context of escalating Iranian aggression against Kuwait since February 28, 2026, including inciteful and provocative statements issued by Tehran, noting that it constitutes a flagrant violation of Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests, as well as a threat to the security and freedom of international navigation, and a breach of international law, the United Nations Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

Al-Mashaan, as reported by Kuwait News Agency, reiterated his country's demand for Iran to immediately cease its unlawful attacks, stressing that Kuwait retains its full right to take necessary measures, and holds Iran fully responsible for this attack and its ongoing aggression.
