(CNN)-- The US Central Command announced in a social media post that the US military concluded what it described as the latest "major wave" of strikes against Iran at 9:40 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, following days of escalation.

The Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in the post that US forces - including fighter jets, drones, and warships - launched precision munitions that struck dozens of Iranian military targets, such as coastal surveillance and air defense sites, military logistics infrastructure, and naval capabilities.

The Central Command did not provide additional details on the number of targets struck, but added in the statement that US forces "hold Iran responsible for the recent attacks on commercial shipping."
