Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced that one of its power and water desalination plants was subjected to a new attack, the second in two days, as a result of Iranian aggression, leading to a fire in some of the plant's facilities and affecting a large number of power generation units.

The ministry explained in a statement today (Sunday) that the incident prompted the activation of emergency plans and the taking of immediate measures to limit its effects and maintain the stability of the electrical system, while fire brigade teams began extinguishing and controlling the fire.

Technical teams begin securing the plant and assessing damage to restore affected units to service.

It added that the ministry's technical teams and emergency teams, in coordination with security authorities, began implementing the necessary technical and precautionary measures to secure the plant, assess damage, and work to restore affected units to service as quickly as possible, while adhering to safety standards.

The ministry affirmed that technical teams continue to work around the clock to ensure the stability of the electrical grid and continuity of service, while monitoring grid indicators and taking necessary measures to limit any potential effects. It also indicated that it is continuously following up on developments in coordination with competent authorities and will announce any updates through its official channels.

Earlier this morning, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army announced the activation of the country's air defense systems to repel hostile missile and drone attacks, following what it described as "the sinful Iranian aggression," affirming that Kuwaiti air defenses are currently dealing with incoming aerial threats.

The General Staff explained that the sounds of explosions that may be heard in some areas are the result of interception operations carried out by air defense systems against hostile targets, as part of defensive measures taken to protect the country's airspace and maintain its security.

Yesterday (Saturday), Kuwait was subjected to Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting military and vital installations, including facilities belonging to the oil, electricity, and water sectors, leading to fires, material damage, and injuries to a number of firefighters and oil sector workers.

Saturday's attacks also caused a temporary disruption of takeoff and landing operations at Kuwait International Airport and the rescheduling of most flights, while authorities confirmed the success of air defenses in intercepting hostile targets. The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks, holding Iran fully responsible for their repercussions.
