Security Guards.. A Success Story Worth Appreciating

Despite the pivotal role that security guards play in protecting facilities and maintaining the safety of individuals and property in government, private, and commercial sectors, some - unfortunately - still view this profession with a condescending attitude, ignoring its humanitarian and national value, and the responsibility, discipline, and vigilance it requires around the clock.

This profession is not merely a uniform standing at the gate of a facility; it is a mission and a responsibility. Behind this uniform are stories of struggle that deserve respect. Some hold university degrees, others continue their studies aspiring for a better future, balancing work and education despite difficult circumstances, and some are military or security retirees who spent years serving their country, then after retirement were forced to seek an additional source of income due to their limited pension, to secure a decent life for themselves and their families.

On the other hand, the suffering of many security guards continues with some companies that do not treat them fairly, whether through low salaries, failure to comply with the minimum wage approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, or depriving them of basic job benefits, foremost of which is health insurance, which is a right and not a luxury.

Even more surprising is that some companies deduct from the guard's salary if he takes a weekly day off, causing him to lose about 300 riyals from his salary, reducing his income to only about 2,700 riyals, even though the weekly rest is a legal right, not a favor from anyone. How can an employee responsible for the safety and security of others be expected to perform his work with the highest level of concentration while facing such living pressures?

Respecting security guards is not just about words, but by providing a fair work environment, salaries that preserve their dignity, health insurance that protects them, and job rights that ensure their stability. Society must also change its view of this profession, for the true value of a person is not determined by the name of his job, but by his dedication in his work, his giving, and his role in serving his community.

A security guard is not just an employee standing at a gate; he is the first line of defense, a vigilant eye, and a partner in protecting lives and property. Those who protect others deserve to have their rights safeguarded and to be treated with all respect and appreciation.
