A power and water distillation plant in Kuwait was subjected to a new attack today, Sunday, due to Iranian strikes. The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy stated in a statement on the "X" platform that this is the second attack targeting the plant in two days.
Iran continues its attacks on electricity and water desalination plants in Kuwait amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The ministry explained that the attack led to a fire in some facilities of the plant, resulting in a large number of power generation units being affected, which necessitated activating emergency plans and immediate response to the incident to mitigate its effects and maintain the stability of the electrical system.
It added that the fire brigade teams immediately began dealing with the fire, and are currently working to control and extinguish it, while technical teams and emergency teams from the ministry, in coordination with security authorities, are implementing the necessary technical and precautionary measures to secure the plant and assess the extent of the damage.
The ministry affirmed that the specialized teams are working to return the affected units to service as quickly as possible, while adhering to the highest safety standards, noting that technical teams continue their work around the clock to maintain the stability of the electrical system and ensure service continuity.
It also clarified that continuous monitoring of electrical grid indicators is ongoing, along with taking all necessary measures to minimize any impacts that may occur on the electrical system as a result of the incident.
The ministry called on citizens and residents to continue rationalizing electricity consumption to help support the stability of the electrical grid and ensure the continuity of service.
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation had stated that one of the vital sites in the oil sector was subjected to repeated Iranian attacks on Saturday morning, resulting in material losses and some injuries, where the injured were given first aid and the site was evacuated.
