(CNN)-- The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) revealed on Monday that nearly 100 American soldiers have suffered injuries of varying severity since July 7.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on platform X: 'Although the injuries of about 100 soldiers have been classified as varying in severity since July 7, 96% of them have returned to duty; they are determined to return to combat, and the vast majority of injuries were minor concussions.'

His remarks came in response to a report by The New York Times claiming that the Pentagon had concealed news of the injury of dozens of American soldiers during the war with Iran.

Sources also told CNN that the US military was slow to disclose soldier injuries, indicating that the delay was intended to protect military service members.
