As part of developing the professional work system and enhancing various technical and medical aspects, Al-Ahly Club has completed the reinforcement of its staff by adding a group of specialized talents from diverse international football experiences, including sports medicine, physical therapy, sports science, and physical preparation, in line with the club's aspirations to improve performance quality and player care.

Simón Bueno López leads the medical addition

The new names include Spanish doctor Simón Bueno López, who joins the medical staff after a career spanning several years with Spanish club Villarreal, where he started working with youth categories before moving to the first team, serving as assistant doctor and then first team doctor between 2021 and 2024, before taking on the role of medical coordinator at the club since 2024.

Bueno López has a specialized scientific background, holding a medical degree from CEU Cardenal Herrera University, and is pursuing a PhD in medicine, in addition to obtaining a FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine, and participating in several specialized medical programs and conferences, with experience in injury diagnosis, medical test analysis, use of modern diagnostic techniques, and monitoring players' vital indicators.

Gabriels strengthens the physiotherapy department

Also joining the medical staff is Dutch physiotherapist Jesper Gabriels, drawing on experience gained between the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia, where he worked with the first team of Al-Qadsiah Club, handling injury diagnosis and treatment, overseeing rehabilitation and prevention programs, in addition to medical coverage for training and matches.

Gabriels previously worked with the first team of Dutch club Vitesse, and also served as head of the medical staff in the Future Falcons program under the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. He holds a Master’s degree in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath, a FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine, and several specialized certificates in physiotherapy and physical preparation.

Luke Garcia supports the physical and sports science side

On the technical side, Portuguese sports science and physical preparation specialist Luke Garcia joins the coaching staff, after multiple experiences in the United States, Portugal, and Canada, most recently with the American club LA Galaxy as a physical performance coach for the U-23 team, where he worked on developing physical programs, monitoring training loads, analyzing performance data, and recovery programs.

Garcia has previous experience with Portuguese club Benfica in the field of physical performance and sports science, in addition to working with Canadian club Toronto FC within the youth categories. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Sports Science and is pursuing a master’s degree in High Performance Sport, along with specialized professional certificates in physical preparation.

Sebastian Kirchner adds his experience to the coaching staff

The coaching staff is also strengthened by the experience of Austrian physical preparation specialist Sebastian Kirchner, who has a rich record in physical preparation and sports science through his experience with Red Bull Salzburg, where he worked as a physical preparation coach for the first team since 2019, contributing to the development of physical programs, performance data analysis, training load monitoring, and injury prevention programs.

Kirchner previously worked with FC Liefering, the Red Bull Salzburg academy, and the Olympic training center in Salzburg. He holds a Master’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Innsbruck, along with a UEFA Fitness A license, speaks German and English, and has knowledge of Portuguese.

The addition of these names comes within the club's approach toward building an integrated system that combines international expertise and scientific specialization, with the aim of supporting players and developing performance both on and off the field.
